Exhibition" Cavaillon, Roman city»

From May 12th till October 30th, 2007 archaeological Museum of the Hotel-Dieu, Door of Avignon,Cavaillon.

The exhibition titled « 600 before JC.” From the origin of Cavaillon" set off for a depiction of the lived world within the context of the rich cavare city's installation and development on the hill Saint Jacques and its neighbourhoods. (Place located between the Durance and the Via Domitia, at the time booming and thriving business were set up between Mediterranean coast and Marseille).

A turn was to be set during the first century, cultural then political Romanisation, populations and local institutions, the hill is abandoned for the benefit of the plain. The Roman city (estate) anchors definitively its urban fabric east of the hill, in the place of the current city.

Although a monumental bow remains this day the unique (only) visible vestige of this antique town planning, numerous archaeological searches (excavations) were realized since about twenty years in Cantaloupe.
Last discovery in date: the graves of the road of fests, searched in 2005, delivered an exceptional material which will be presented to the public in this occasion.

The exhibition" Cavaillon, Roman city» thus invites the public to discover objects, vestiges and knowledge stemming from the excavations.
The visitor is launched in an extraordinary journey, right into the Roman time. It provides a sense of what was to lived in a city called Cavaillon in this particular era.
