A heritage of rented properties
Esprit Calvet understood that, to ensure its independence and future, the Foundation needed a large heritage of properties for renting out. At present, this heritage is made up of several dozen urban and rural apartments, which generate an income of several hundred thousand euros, allowing it, every year, to acquire new works to enrich its collections.
This situation, unique in France, was what the founder, Esprit Calvet, aspired to almost 200 years ago. Today, it can be seen that this situation was particularly advanced for the period.

A stunning heritage of furniture and real estate
The collections and buildings bequeathed or donated to the Foundation since the 19th century help to reinforce the town’s international reputation. Rich and varied, the buildings and works which it shelters constitute the cultural counterpart to the Palais des Papes. For art lovers and tourists, they are almost as famous as the Pont d’Avignon. They bear witness to the role played by the Papal city and the Calvet Foundation in the world of religion and art.
